Liaison / Business Interpreting
Liaison interpreting is the preferred solution for a small, multilingual group of people. The interpreter relays the message of the speaker after a few sentences, or as whispered interpreting.
What differentiates liaison interpreting from consecutive interpreting is the use of short sentences. Usually this means that the interpreter does not need to take notes.
As with consecutive interpreting, this mode does not require any special equipment. The interpreter sits close to the person speaking and conveys the message shortly after it is pronounced.
Liaison interpreting is ideal for one-on-one interviews or business meetings with clients/suppliers. It is not recommended for groups exceeding five people. In such cases, simultaneous interpretation is the best option.
